The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with One Step
Aladdin and Jasmine said it best when they sang "A Whole New World".
I have learned so much in this class, not only from the research I've done on my own but from looking at everyone else's contributions to the class. I have discovered a whole new side of education. I have been around teachers my entire life. I work with technology every day in my professional life. I have always desired to put the two worlds together, I just didn't know how. This field of study is the answer to that pursuit.
I was surprised to see how much educators have to struggle with technology. It was very eye opening to understand how instruction of all ages have to "just make due" with whatever they have access to.
This course and moreover, the program have sparked within me the desire to provide a wholistic solution for educators from a technologist's perspective. I feel like, as being the person that provides the solution, I should know the students, the expected learning strategies, and the proficiency of the instructor. Then be able to deliver a solution that meets all of the expectations of the instructor for the students.
The challenges I had were different than most people in the course. I am not an educator by trade. Which is to say, I do not work directly with students in the classroom. My challenges were understanding the educational aspect of the assignments. In the beginning when we were discussing the history and different theories in IDT, I had to dig a little deeper to understand the significance of some of the educational language.
It's hard to say what I would do differently in the course. From what I learned about IDT and how the course was taught, all of the different methods were covered in different assignments. From what I understood of the course material, I wouldn't change anything.
My best constructive criticism is that I wish the class lasted the entire semester. I feel like being able to use more technology and flesh out the concepts more would be beneficial.
